Who are we?
The Teamwhich supports the work of the Workshop for social research makes it possible, introduces itself.

Miguel Montero
Founding member of the Werkstatt für Sozialforschung e.V. I have a degree in Sociology and a Master's degree in European Administrative Management (University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Administration of Justice, Berlin) and a Master's degree in Management of Social Welfare and Social Services (Universidad Alcalá de Henares). I am also a member of the Spanish Sociological Association, the German Sociological Association and the Spanish Social Policy Network. I am trade union secretary of Comisiones Obreras (Spain).
My main areas of interest are political education, social policy, migration and disruptive transformations. At the Werkstatt für Sozialforschung, I develop and apply for projects and take care of the administration. I particularly appreciate the fact that we work on a low-threshold basis and that we are able to reach people who are systematically excluded from education and participation. I find transnational projects that allow us to think outside the box exciting.
Julie Markussen

Julie Markussen holds a master's degree in sociology from the University of Copenhagen. During her studies, she already focused on the structural causes and social effects of social disadvantage. In her master's thesis, she investigated the perception of stigmatization and poverty among social benefit recipients as well as political strategies to promote participation and prevent social exclusion.
She gained international experience through study visits to renowned US universities such as UC Berkeley and UW-Madison as well as through an academic position at Rice University in Houston. She gained further study experience at the Free University of Berlin.
She has lived in Berlin since 2018 and has worked for various NGOs, including as a project manager for educational projects. She has promoted access to education for refugees, strengthened their social participation and supported young people in developing self-confidence and initiative. She has also promoted language skills through educational programs in order to open up new educational and professional opportunities for young people.
In addition to her work at the Werkstatt für Sozialforschung, she is currently Operations Manager at Barka e. V., where she is dedicated to providing emergency housing assistance for EU citizens in Berlin.

Andrea Sánchez-Guijaldo
Andrea Sánchez-Guijaldo is a historian. Although her research at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid focuses on the power of medieval queens in early medieval Castile, as a citizen she knows that there is a world beyond the Middle Ages.
A staunch European and feminist and a committed human rights advocate, Andrea works at the Social Research Workshop to understand and communicate concepts of civic education and the centrality of the lives and issues of people who are underrepresented in society.
