The cycle began on February 6 and 7 in Munich. On Saturday 6/2/2022 we organized a talk about the Spaniards deported to Dachau, given by Cristina Cristóbal, president of the Amical Dachau, whom we thank for her dedication and affection.
Cristina placed the deportations in their historical context, highlighting the exile and the terrible conditions that the refugees found in France. After their passage through these camps, many participated actively in the Resistance, but many others were forced to perform forced labor for the Third Reich. Many others were deported to the National Socialist concentration camps. Cristina shared with us the story of her grandfather Fermín Cristóbal López, born 1894 in Sepúlveda (Segovia) and died in Dachau on 8/2/1945.
On Sunday 7/2/2022 we visited the memorial of the Dachau concentration camp with Patricia Prieto Soto, who spoke to us about the history of the camp and the biographies of the Spanish deportees to this place. Patricia delved into the history of the camp, the conditions in the camp, the human experiments that were carried out there.
We then had the opportunity to talk about the importance of transmitting the history of National Socialism today, emphasizing the relevance of education in historical memory to confront the discourse of the extreme right.
